Mission to Implement

Photocat pioneered the development of the world’s first certified after market treatment to make window glass selfcleaning ShineOn®.

This product was the first to be tested by an independent professional testing organization verifying that the product was indeed self cleaning according to European Standard. This product is now in the hands of professional marketers in a number of countries spreading it out to make more and more glass become self-cleaning.
The technology developed has gradually been improved, refined and made ready for more and more industrial implementations. Currently a very innovative product changing the surface of floors is in the go to market phase. The product turns the floors into not only being floors but also making them become active formaldehyde and VOC filters.
Photocat offers its patent and trademark protected technologies to companies that can demonstrate ability to market innovative differentiated products.

The company history started in 2006

It was when one of the founders got the idea to build on his basic particle work and make surfaces become active using photocatalytic materials. The idea took a while to mature, however, once matured the development was quite rapid. The first version of the product was launched in Germany in 2007 and now in improved version also marketed in USA and U.K.
In 2007 the second important project started with a focus on laminate floors. Here the development aim was to develop a particle that could provided sufficient photocatalytic activity to perform in visual light. By early 2009, the project has reached proof of concept and was presented on Domotex in Hannover.
In the summer of 2009 Photocat presented its product directly to the first 3 customers. This formed the basis for founding the company on the 31st July 2009. The 3 founders celebrated the moment with a test showing that not only could the new floor eliminate formaldehyde release from the floor itself, it could also eliminate formaldehyde from other sources. The world’s first floor with the potential of lowering carcinogenic risc was born.

Henrik Jensen, Ph.D.
CSO & Partner
Henrik Jensen is an experienced project manager and has a track record with several development successes.  Henrik was technical repsonsible as project manager taking ShineOn from the initial idea to a commercial product sold to the professionel market. In the process of taken ShineOn to a commercial level Henrik managed a technical project group within development, production, characterization and quality control. In total Henrik has worked with nanosized photocatalyst for the past 8 years and is co-inventor on 6 patent applications and first author on 5 peer reviewed articles within this field.
Henrik Jensen is Chemical Engineer from Aalborg University and holds a Ph.D. degree within production of nanosized photocatalysts from Aalborg University.

Theis K. Reenberg, Ph.D.
VP & Partner
Theis Reenberg is a talented nano scientist within applied chemistry with several years of experience within organic synthesis. Theis has for the past two years worked with nanosized photocatalysis and especially with incorporation of nanoparticles in organic matrixes. Theis is one of the inventors of the Photocat ActiFloor technology and Theis was the main driven force taking the Photocat ActiFloor technology from lab scale to producing ActiFloors on commercial laminate floor factories. Theis is also co-inventor on the technology for producing the nanoparticles for both ShineOn and ActiFloors.
Theis is an Organic Chemist from Copenhagen University and holds a Ph.D. Degree within carbohydrate recognition in water obtained from the Carlsberg laboratory. He has also worked as a post.doc at the Nano-Science Center at the University of Copenhagen.
